Who We Are
Higher Educational Funding/Mentoring Initiative is a national nonprofit organization starting in Detroit, MI, dedicated to providing multiple educational support services to individuals throughout the U.S. who are pursuing higher and lifelong education. We are a grassroots, boots-on-the-ground, skin-in-the-game, putting-in-the-work organization.
Our program includes:
Weekly/Bi-weekly initiatives: Mentor meetings, community cleanups, and feeding the homeless and less fortunate.
Quarterly programs: Our initiatives include scholarship raffles, sponsorship for 10-20 students, and youth gun awareness & safety programs in partnership with DPD/WCSD.
Annual events: Scholarship achievement awards dinner, back-to-school giveaways, a 5K walk/run, and snow shoveling for seniors.
Our slogan is “Funding Our Future.”
Mission Statement
Our mission is to empower graduating high school seniors in the metro Detroit area by removing financial barriers to higher education and reliable transportation. Through the provision of 50,000 scholarships and the promise of a new vehicle, we invest in the future of our youth—fostering academic achievement, independence, and long-term success. We believe every student deserves the opportunity to pursue their dreams without limits.
This is who we are, what we do, and who we are called to be.
We envision a future where every graduating senior in metro Detroit has the resources, support, and mobility to access higher education and build a thriving, self-sufficient life. By transforming the landscape of opportunity, we aim to inspire a generation of leaders who drive change—in their communities and beyond.
