About Olivia Brown

As I come to my sophomore year Wayne State University, I once again and with more purpose make the aim of personal ambition that is to join the legal field to work as a corporate lawyer. My major, Political Science, has given me the advantage to study the intersection of law, business and public policy in all of my courses. Although the path to law school will probably be long, I am ready to embark on the journey of further intellectual and academic growth and preparation to my future academic and professional life. I do not only want to pursue corporate law based on ambition but also based on a desire to serve my community in particular. I have also seen the manner, in which without proper legal representation, individuals, families and small business can be victimized, and even abused by the larger systems at times. I will fill such gaps with my legal training and be sure that people are not only guarded but informed and empowered. Corporate lawyers have a very large impact on the areas of ethical operations and I intend to bring in the aspect of professional ability and compassion to the table. This scholarship would help me significantly progress toward the said goal. Being a college student, I am already confronted with the balancing act that occurs after college during studies and job and other activities. Money may be a burden and scholarships like this one can help me focus on my academic performance and being engaged in progressive opportunities (through internships or volunteering), which I will not be worried about all the time. As I look to the future, I can see myself using my practice in the law not only as a means of succeeding in the corporate environment but also as a way of serving alongside the practice of law by counseling with potential students in their formative experiences, advising the proprietors of small and medium businesses and ensuring that their voices hear on critical decisions. The scholarship is much more than money; it is a budgeting in this vision. Your assistance at this point helps me to build the framework that I need to achieve my dream of becoming a corporate lawyer and turn it into reality- something that not only benefits me, but also my broader community.
