About Quintal May Jr.

Chasing Justice: My Dream to Become a Lawyer Since I was young, I’ve been fascinated by the idea of justice—what it means, how it’s achieved, and the role individuals can play in making it a reality. That fascination grew into a calling, and today, as a junior at Ferris State University, I am fully committed to pursuing a career in law. My dream of becoming a lawyer is not just a career goal; it is a personal mission to advocate for fairness, speak for those without a voice, and help shape a more just society. My journey toward this dream has been shaped by a mixture of personal experiences, academic curiosity, and a strong sense of responsibility to my community. Growing up, I often saw how complex and intimidating the legal system could be, especially for people who didn’t have the resources or knowledge to navigate it. I knew early on that I wanted to be someone who could stand in the gap for others—someone who understood the law and could use it to make a difference. At Ferris State, I have focused my studies on courses that sharpen my critical thinking, research, and communication skills. These are the foundational tools every good lawyer needs, and I am determined to master them. Whether it’s writing persuasive arguments in class or participating in debates, I see each assignment and experience as preparation for the courtroom. I’ve also been exploring legal internships and shadowing opportunities to gain real-world exposure to the legal profession. Seeing attorneys in action—advocating in courtrooms, negotiating behind the scenes, and advising clients—has only deepened my motivation. Beyond academics, I try to stay engaged in activities that develop leadership and service. I believe that a great lawyer not only knows the law but also understands people—how to listen, empathize, and act with integrity. I’ve been involved in student organizations and volunteer work that put me in touch with different perspectives, helping me grow both personally and professionally. What draws me most to the legal profession is its power to effect change. Whether through criminal justice reform, civil rights advocacy, or helping individuals through family law or immigration issues, lawyers play a vital role in building a more fair and equitable society. I want to be a part of that. I want to walk into a courtroom or sit across from a client knowing that I have the knowledge and skills to help them through some of the most important challenges of their lives. As I enter my final year at Ferris State, I am more focused than ever on preparing for law school and beyond. I know the path to becoming a lawyer is demanding, but I’m ready for the challenge. My dream is rooted in purpose, fueled by hard work, and guided by a deep desire to serve. Becoming a lawyer isn’t just what I want to do—it’s who I want to be.
