Facing challenges and obstacles throughout life is of the inevitable. Many of these things can be unforeseeable. As a child, you never think about living without a parent. After the passing of my grandmother, who I was really close to, I never thought I would then lose my mother when I was in 8th grade. Losing my mother took a toll in me in many ways. Not having her as I navigate through life, to assist me in my development into a young woman, and even now as a senior in high school, always weighs heavy on my heart. Throughout my life, I feel that her loss has been reflected academically and socially. Even though I’ve found myself having difficulty remaining motivated, I’ve been able to maintain a gpa of 3.8 and I’ve also remained on the cheerleading team for 2 years, including volleyball my freshman year of highshool. Moments that are once in a lifetime experiences, I am not able to share with those I was closest to. However, I’ve still found it in myself to live for both my grandmother and my mother. The lesson I’ve learned in all of this is to cherish people and to have compassion for others at all games. Above all, this has instilled resilience within me. I have to keep going. I know that my situation was out of my control, and even though coping has been a continuous challenge and journey, I have not given up on the dreams my mother had for me. By being admitted into Michigan State University , I know that I will thrive personally, academically, and socially. I have the discipline to apply myself and achieve not just my goals, but the goals my mother had for me, even when I lack motivation. It is my hope that my innate resilience and courage will continue to help me overcome obstacles to come. As I plan to pursue my education in nursing, I know that the qualities I have will help make me successful and an asset to the university and my future career field. This scholarship will help me live my dreams and become a Registered nurse with which i have already taken steps in with taking a CNA class, this scholarship will help me strive academically knowing I would not have to worry about financial reasons of me having to stop attending school or being in heavy debt once I graduate.
